Hi, does anyone know the id of this Tachynidae?
(I hope I'm not getting wrong with the family...)

The picture was taken last july at Girona (Catalonia) by Miguel Ángel Fuentes

Thanks in advance

Can't help with ID, but there's some fungus on it, on the abdomen. Maybe Entomophtora or related.

I agree.
Look at the very dark calyptrae and the bluish tergite 3, this must be Calliphora spec. with some aberration at abdominal tip.

Precisely I though this would be an easy one to id because of the contrasting coloration in the abdomen, I hadn't imagined this was due to fugus infestation! Withouth it it's just another difficult black fly...

Thank you very much!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
