Can anyone help with this one? I thought it might have been Empis pennipes, but then realised the specimen only has a short proboscis.

Female, 2.5mm, from 19 May 2008, lowland (95masl) central France, la Brenne, in field occasionally grazed by cattle, but showing signs of scrub regeneration.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
