Hello!

Two 2-3 mm flies from 7th October at the light (northwest Germany). Both Sphaeroceridae? Or Phoridae?

upper one is definitely Sphaeroceridae: short and dilated hind basotarsomere, wing venation and just general habitus. Can't see details of the lower one, but this is not Phoridae.

Thanks, Mike! I'm meanwhile thinking, if #2 could perhaps be Drosophilidae (Scaptomyza?).
Best regards,
Jürgen

First one could be a Leptocera, second most likely is S. pallida.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
