Hello,

I am not even sure about the family Lauxaniidae, but for me Sapromyza looked similar in the gallery. What fly is this?

(found in July in a garden near Cologne. Length about 5-6mm)

Thanks,
Michael

Hello, Michael!

With these spots I think, it can only be Sapromyza sexmaculata:

Hello Jürgen,

thank you for your answer. I remarked those spots, but somehow I overlooked the species in the gallery.

Hello Jurgen and Michael, S. sexmaculata not!, it is oriental species (the determination on gallery is wrong). Several species of Sapromyzosoma and less of Sapromyza have the spots on the abdomen. This specimen could not be determined from this photo.

Hello Katka,

thanks for correction. It would have been too nice to have the species.

How can the genera Sapromyza and Sapromyzosoma be distinguished?

Hello Michael,
The ocellar seta of Sapromyzosoma are out of the ocellar triangle, Sapromyza inside.

What can't be seen on this photo of course. Good to know.

Thanks,
Michael
