Found this fly 14 April 2008 on a wall in my garden (Koudekerke, Netherlands). I checked the pictures in the gallery, but didn't find a look-alike. Who can help me with its name and gender?

Hi Liekele, thanks.
I think it is a male but not 100% sure.
I'll wait for Chris or Theo to confirme the name. If so I'll offer it to the gallery. This species is lacking.

Ok thanks Theo.
Liekele presumed it was this species. He did't say 'definitely Campylochaeta praecox'. I thought he wasn't quite sure of it. That's why I wanted a confirmation. I know Liekele 's name as a respected expert of EIS Leiden.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
