Hello,

what flies are these two. I found them beginning of october in a forest region near Cologne. Length was about 8 or 9mm. Perhaps genus Phaonia?

Thanks,
Michael

Hello, Michael!

The first one should be a female Phaonia rufiventris.

The second fly could be Phaonia valida indeed, but I can't really see whether the vein M is somewhat bent apically (it could be tricky on picture), whether occipital hairs are reddish in lower part... (so it could be P. errans too). Wink
Stephane.

Thank you for your answers. Phaonia valida and Phaonia errans is really tricky.
