Please, could anyone recommend Tipulidae literature for determination?
I live in Galicia, NW Spain, but West Palearctic literature is fine for my territory.
PDF files are wellcomed. Thanks.

It is not a key, but there is a World catalogue of Craneflies by Oosterbroek at http://ip30.eti.uva.nl/ccw/ there you can search for literature.

The Tipulidae part of "Lindner, Fliegen der Palaearktischen Region" ist available and not so old, but has two disadvantages:

- it's in German (well, not a REAL disadvantage after all ;-)
- it's not a bargain (about 260 Euro)

cheers - diph

You may want to contact Prof. S. Podenas (Sigitas.Podenas@gf.vu.lt), who is one of leading world experts in crane flies, and has been working a lot on West Palaearctic fauna.Cool

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
