Stephane, I am not doubting you, and I wouldn't have thought it a Phorid, but how can you be so sure. I can see the long arista, but the 1st tarsal segment of leg three does not look swollen and the wing venation is not really discernable, at least to me.

It all much clearer under the microscope where both Phorids and Sphaerocerids (to a point) are among the easier subjects.

hind metatarsus seems swollen to me, but it not the best angle of view to see this., I agree.

this is not phorid, clearly. Stéphane is right. This is a typical Sphaerocerid fly.
