In th same location where I found Hybomitra caucasica and auripila, I saw a third Hybomitra species (as well as Philipomyia aprica and some Haematopota).

I saw a male as well as a female unknown Hybomitra, sor for my convenience I assume they belong to the same species - I keep my fingers crossed!

Female all black except for green eyes with three narrow red bands.
edit: photo's removed, since it appeared to be female caucasica after all! see below

Male very dark, but with orange patches on the sides of first segments; eyes green with two narrow red bands.

Additional info: Hasliberg, Switzerland (ca 1000 m altitude); 5 July 2008. Intensively used hey land, mown twice a year and fertilized with dung.

Any suggestions to ID are warmly welcome - as allways!

again male, orange patches now visible

The male reminded me of Philipomyia aprica, though much darker - but the eye bands do not square with that species.

The 2 are not conspecific.

The female is, again, caucasica (? why not),
the male difficult to see, possible montana / nigricornis

Ok, thanks Theo. I found the eye bands more focussed compared to earlier, but may be this depends on sighting angle etc.

The male then. This is a dorsal shot, maybe that helps more?

ps I deleted the female caucasica, to clean up my messFrown
