hi flyforum, This fly was sitting on a blackberry in the edge of the forest. I think Musciade (female) and with these strong fuscated crossveins Phaonia? other features: - plumose arista - hair on eyes - orange/golden anterior spiracle - posterior setae - apical bristles on tibia II are heavy - 1 prescutellar ac (two hairs, so is this notation of 1 prescutellar correct? > 1 pair of prescutellar ac) - no interfrontals - no colouring on the end of it's scutellum. - size ~ 10mm 0bvious is the yellow/orange couloured stroke of hairs on the backside of the tibia and beneath the apical bristles? If wanted, I can crop some parts for more detail. I think Helina too. Helina evecta would be a good candidate. Could I have a good view of leg 3, just to be sure ?

Thanks you Joke and Stephane. What's a good character for Helina sp. ? I'll give you it's 3rd leg, not 'it's best leg'.. Just look underneath the wing-edge, there you the 3rd leg.. Not an easy question. If you found a Phaoniinae with no "Phaonia calcar" (pd on apical third of hind tibia) paired dark spots on tergits 3-4 and straight M1+2, there is every chance that you found an Helina. When the abdomen lacks the Helina spots (like this one), it is more difficult...
