Could it be this time a male of Lindneromyia dorsalis? The both sexes were near by. Has anyone documented mating in Platypezidae? Should be interresting!

I think, it's more likely Kesselimyia chandleri, need to see the wing venation, but the bicolored eye is good character. K. chandleri larvae lives between the gills of common fungus Macrolepiota procera, notwithstanding the animal is often overlooked.

Compare with my exemplars:

Today I found the first specimen of Kesselimyia for Greece in a sample from the Kerkini Wetland Survey. Grin

Kesselimyia chandleri :1. in Poland this species does not occur. 2. the details of the foreheads and wings are not visible. In my opinion, this is a wrong identifications.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
