Hi,

today received from a friend (Alexandru Strugariu) some photos of a tachinid (i think) posed on a not so tipical substrate.

photos where made today (6.august.2008).

i don't think that an identification will be possible (but who knows), but at least to share this photos (i have author permission).

enjoy,

Vipera berus
i don't exclude Sarcophagidae, but the fly was very thorny.

Yes, you are right, normally sarcophagids aren't so thorny. Thanks for the name of the snake.

It's a sarcophagid - they are often very bristly but when seen from the side it becomes more obvious Wink In this case the dusting pattern and prominent shiny, black genital capsule strongly suggest a sarcophagid. Smile

First of all, aaamazing pictures.
Secondly, is the photographer still alive ?

Thirdly, the fly.

I agree, it looks very bristly, yet also my gut feeling guesses it is Sarcophagidae. It is too slender / elongate for most Tachinidae.
And Sarcophagidae make much more sense from the biological point of view.
