Is it possible to id this horse-fly? I am told it is not a Tabanus autumnalis, as I thought, because of the horizontal bar on the eye.

T. bromius has a single band. But wait for Theo to comment for a positive ID.

I agree.
Only maculicornis is similar, but much bluisher.
