Hasliberg, Switzerland; 4 July, sun just peeking over mountains after rainy night. Moderate size, 12 - 15 mm or so. Grass land for hay, fertilized by dung. Despite numbers of them, they didn't approach me (unlike Haematopota, on which I seem to have an Axe effect ) Is ID possible? Of course they didn't approach you, do you look like a female Tabanus ?? This is the male (!!) of Tabanus bromius, so no blood sucking here. Theo |

hee hee, silly me! But loads of females were very much attracted to our car in full sunshine, much to the chagrin of my family (they somehow don't share my tast for these flies - especially not the giants). May be 1 bite of a female, not much compared to some 20 Haematopota bites! Thanks for your attention Cor Zonneveld |
