Hi,
We have lots of Tachinids, busy with visiting flowers, at the moment. Beside the big Tachinas, Ectophasia is the most striking one. Could this one be E. oblonga, or is it E. crassipennis as usual? Theo once asked for a ventral pic, but the fly disagreed once more...
Seen today on wild carrot.
Thanks for help, Sundew

It's hard to say ... the best way to do them is genitalia and I have never seen one myself. But it is possible, working on just the secondary features. Theo will know though Grin

Congrats.

This is it, typical male oblonga. The bloodred colour says it all.

Well done !!

No, I think Jorge wanted to point out that he had already submitted very good photos of this species to the gallery about a year ago, so there is no urgent need to add more. At least I interpret his post that way Smile.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
