Correct so far? I would guess about 12mm big. I cant be sure this is the exact one that bit me, but I would azume it was same species. Possible to tell what species it is? I do have a couple more halfgood pictures from other angles. I think in norway there are 'only' 7 species from Chrysops, so maybe it could be possible to pin it down? Pictures taken about a week ago, near river here in southern norway.

First one is Ch. relictus, second is Ch. nigripes. So different. Theo |

C. nigripes is an Holarctic sp. but the wing pattern of the 2nd specimen does not resemble that of North American nigripes. Actually it doesn't resemble the image of a nigripes wing in The Horse Flies of Europe; neither does it fit the description of the wing in that book.  |
