This fly is among one of the most beautiful I've seen among the Nematocera. And finally we are seeing one specimen belonging to the BLEPHARICERIDAE family. I think this is a Liponeura sp. species. It is nice to see the wing without alula showing a striking anal lobe!! See that M2 doesn't connect to the M1 vein. Very nice to see very tiny transversal veins in the wing!! jorgemotalmeida attached the following image: [194.79Kb] Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 22-07-2008 11:26 |

"Larval blepharicerids constitute a guild of highly specialized grazers in streams." If it was Blepharicera sp. we would see crazy eyes. |

There are many species of Liponeura: http://www.biolib.../id118307/ In Neartic I think Blepharicera and Agathon are common genus. Liponeura only in Palearctic? Not sure. |
