Dear forum, I took this picture today in my garden. Is Rhinophoridae correct and can they be further identified? Best regards, Niek Niek van Wijk attached the following image: ![]() [178.58Kb] |

Does rather look like members of the "Rhinophoridae dance-troop" doing their world-famous performance of "conga on a leaf" ![]() ![]() |

Dear Chris, Thank you for your reply. They are almost human... I assume identification further than Rhinophoridae species is impossible? Best regards, Niek |

Rhinophora lepida is common at this time of year and is small with yellow halteres ... but it's hard to say for sure ... need to see the wings a bit better and get a better idea of their size ![]() |

Dear Chris, Size was ~5 mm. I shall describe them in my album - an oldfashioned one with pictures printed on paper - as Rhinophora cf. lepida. OK? Best regards, Niek Edited by Niek van Wijk on 18-07-2008 17:51 |

There is only one Rhinophora and this is it, indeed, lepida. Theo |
