Hi,
This mosquito male with striped legs sat in our hallway some weeks ago. Is an ID possible?
Many thanks, Sundew

I don't think so. This genus isn't distributed in Middle Europe. It is probably a Culex or a Culiseta species. May be, Tony Irwin has an idea...
Nevertheless thanks for the suggestion!

As usual, I'm not 100% certain Wink, but I think this is Aedes flavescens

An Aedes at last - fine! Which part of the body should especially paid attention to in photographing? So I could perhaps recognize the genus myself and avoid unnecessary double inquiries...
Many thanks, Tony!
Cheers, Sundew

It's usually a combination of many characters that leads to the answer. So photograph the legs, head, abdomen (dorsal and ventral) thorax (dorsal and very-close-up lateral), and ultra-close-up of male genitalia, and wings, of course. Or just catch the specimen!Wink
