Hello!

Despite of 1 ?C and temporary snow showers this medium sized (like an Episyrphus) hoverfly was feeding today on a Tussilago blossom (also some Eristalis there) here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. Is it a Parasyrphus punctulatus? Thanks in advance!

It is difficult to see,
but I am inclined to think Paul is right: Melangyna lasiophthalma.
The spots are more rectangular in Melangyna.

Hello, Paul and Theo!

Thanks for your answers! In March 2005 a supposed M. lasiopthalma turned out to be a P. punctulatus, this year the other way... ;-)
Best regards,
Jürgen
