Saw this strange beetle burrowing into chalky soil in southern England today - size just over 1cm. Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Might be a Silpha larva (carrion beetle), compare to thread http://www.dipter...ad_id=8551! Regards, Sundew |

That looks very similar - thanks We do have Silpha sp. on the ame site so that is very likely and your photos look a very close match ![]() |
