Very good photos as usual John! Don't forget to submit your observations (with photos) to Artportalen Wink

I can't see yellow halteres and the frons looks too silvery for barbifrons. Personally, I'd say it looks more like Phasia pusilla Smile

Thanks Chris! I think you are correct.

When I compare it to some of my previously confirmed barbifrons-images the abdomen also seems lighter and not as shiny-black.

Dusting on the abdomen is quite variable, in my experience. Dusting on the thorax would suggest Phasia obesa but with undusted thorax, dark haltares and a silvery face with no hairs between the frontal row and the eyes would mean it can only be Phasia pusilla Smile

Chris is quite right.

The validity of this remarks ends when you approach the Mediterrean region.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
