Hi,
I am still searching for an Eristalinus that is no sepulchralis and hope this time I was lucky. Unfortunately, most pics of the series, taken in a Brandenburgian village on 1 April, were blurred. However, the dull spots on the abdomen are not seen here, and the thorax isn't striped. So what do you say?

You found him! Especially pic 1 shows the shiny abdomen quite well. Eyes meet in the front part narrowly (while broadly separated in male of sepulchralis), but this doesn't show really well on these pics.
Sorry for the delay... Smile

Great - but the species name still remains a mystery... I vote for E. aeneus then.
