this fly has a strong resemblance to the fly I saw last weekend! But mine was even darker.

licking minerals... I think.

A friend of mine reported that he saw tachinids licking on stones...

Thanks to all of youSmile

It was really sucking something...and was really commited to what it was doing. Even when I captured it, it didn't move.
Whatever it was doing it seemed very important.

Today I saw two of them mating (well, I think they were the same species):
