Hello!

These small (4-5 mm) were numerous today on sunny treetrunks at the forest (northwest Germany). Please don't tell me, they are Anthomyiids... Wink. Could they be Hydrotaea sp.?

Arrghh... For a short time I had those in mind, but then I thought: too dark eyes (I only know those with more red eyes), to early... Thanks, Kahis!
Best regards,
Jürgen

If it is Lonchaeidae, it should not be too difficult to get some more precise identification in the light of these darkened veins...

very interesting ! I dont know how much of the darkened wing veins and darker eyes are due to the light conditions rather than anything else. the head and antennal flagellomere look a bit like a Dasiops spp. but the rest does not seem to fit too well.
Juergen - any chance of you tubing one of these for me next time you are out ??? ...... best wishes ... Iain

Oh, that I should have known earlier... Frown Today I was on the way on another location (about 3 km from the first). It was only 3 ?C and there were not many flies. But this Lonchaeid again sunbathed at trees. Unfortunately the weather forecast speaks of rain or snow tomorrow and possibly the next days. Sad
