Hello,
This Asilinae was found in the Roussillon plain (66680 - Pyrénées-Orientales, France), altitude 100m, in mid june. Size of the insect unknown (old obs).
The black legs, the reddish ring at the base of the tibiae, the tuft of hair under the genitals, the large yellowish-white bristles, the white moustache, black on top argue for Machimus rusticus or M. annulipes.
I think it could be Machimus annulipes because the spines of the legs are mostly black, while those of M. rusticus are mostly white.
What do you think please?

Good reasoning but I think annulipes is not known from Pyr. Or. and rusticus is very common there... hmmmm
