Hello,

I photographed this fly in Lago di San Bernolfo (CN), Italy, 1900m a.s.l. on August 22nd 2024. I think it is a Tachinidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species based on these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Very interesting. So first impression is Platymyia, however, calypter lacks inner black margin. Usually, in that case, it turns out to be Paratryphera, but not in this case. It is a good match with Alsomyia (capillata), which is a montane species, so that figures as well.

The key feature, however, for Alsomyia is the presence of setulae on back of coxa 3, despite the excellent pics kind of difficult to see Smile

So with high probability Alsomyia capillata, I'd say.

I know it looks loke one of those hunderds of grey flies, but to me, I see several peculiar features, that helps.
