Hello,

I photographed this fly in the Black River Gorges National Park, Mauritius, 550m a.s.l. on April 20th 2024. Unfortunately it flew away before I could take more pictures, and I'm not even sure of the family it may belong to. Is it identifiable based on this photo alone?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Rhinophoridae?

Only one species is known from Mauritius and this is not it.

I tried to edit the picture in order to make the wing venation a bit more visible, but it's not easy given the dark wing membrane.
