Hello,
In March 2021 I offered you this large female Empis https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=99911
And in March 2020 I photographed a large male https://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=99834
On April 01, 2024, still in the same garden in the south of France, I saw this female which seems quite close to me and which I was able to photograph from several angles as she was very busy sucking nectar from Thyme.
Her body is 12 mm long.
I imagine it's one of the large Mediterranean species or Empis ciliata?

From some angles, the tufts of hair on the legs are hardly visible. On the front legs, there are only tufts on the tibiae.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
