But I do - supported by a nice paper of Theo Zeegers Wink

It's Bibio clavipes:

Pterostigma overschrijdt subcosta: nee (betrouwbar)
Vleugel man: melkwit (betrouwbar)

From:
de zwarte vlieg bibio longipes, een late herfstsoort, by Theo Zeegers

Thanks a lot, Eric and Theo!
Great, that the species ID could be clarified.

Whoah, who is this guy from this key ?

Now, for serious

the milky wing is very conspicuous in the field, but very tricky to assess from pictures, in my experience.
On the right wing in the first pic the stigma crosses the vein, or so it seems.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
