Hi all,

I identified this fly from Heelsum, the Netherlands (coll. 07-06-2023) as Pegomya meridiana using DNA (soft lysis). That's a species not known to occur in the Netherlands though, and many Pegomya species lack DNA references, so could someone help pointing me towards ways of confirming this identification?

Image attached.

Thanks!

Marcel

Reply from Verner Michelsen:

Hi Marcel,

I confirm your ID. This is a female of Pegomya meridiana. A larval attack on Hypericum is reported from the Netherlands.

Greetings
Verner
