Hello,
I have caught this Atylotus male in Hungary, and I can’t really distinguish fulvus and loewianus. Could you help me please? What is the best to determine males?
Eyes with really long yellow hairs.
I read a lot of features but none of them seems really reliable and clear for me.

Hi,
I made a quick shot of the key characters in the great book by Theo and André (https://www.velds...villi.html). If there are really long hairs on the eyes, it should be A. loewianus.
Regards, Sundew

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
