During my excursion to the South of Oman this September, I saw quite a number of Asilidae (I hope) and would be very happy if you could help me to sort them out (or even better - ort them in). The region is defined by the huge Omani dessert inland, the Indian Ocean and a small strip of land between those, which is regularly watered by a summerly monsun. Huge biodiversity, although we where a little late and missed a lot. This one, seen only briefly in a small valley with running water, was at least 16-18mm, very shy, and it needs a shave, doesn't it? Thank you very much! The "maybe" is cf. Hippomachus mivatus or rather Hippomachus cf. mivatus? Sorry, I am rather unexperienced and do not really know where to look up such questions.... |
