Hi,
On October 2nd, a large flock of Ephydrids gathered around a water-filled rut in a wood in southern Brandenburg. I tried hard to take good pictures, but it wasn't easy. Still, I'm hoping for Tony's experience - maybe he can recognize a species. The face appears to be barely hairy, the feet are apparently red, the halters are yellow, and there are a few light spots on the dark wings.
Thanks in advance, Sundew

Parydra littoralis. Note the middle tibia has silvery patches at the base, apex and middle.

Now that you say it, I see these silvery spots! The hind tibiae seem to have them, too. There were so many reflections from the flash that I wasn't sure if the spots were real. Another new Ephydrid for me, that's nice. Thank you so much!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
