Hello;

I found this small-headed fly in a small forest sitting on a birch (Betula).

Is determination up to the species possible?

I did not find much information on this kind of flies; Acrocera orbiculus seems to be a candidate.

More high-res images below.

Location: Hesseberg, Forest, Sieboldshausen/Dramfeld, Süd-Niedersachsen (Lower-Saxony)

Thanks!

---Christian

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
