Hi,

yesterday I took a picture of a hoverfly in flight. Unfortunately this is the only image I have.

Currently, Xanthogramma pedissequum is comparatively abundant here, so I initially thought it might be one of those. But the yellow marking on the left of the Scutellum seems to be unusual and that makes me doubt that its really Xanthogramma pedissequum.
What would you think about it?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Garden in Munich (-West), 13.07.2023, app. 10 mm

Hi, Uli

these yellow markings on the thorax can be present in X. dives as well (you should google for more pictures). However, as far as I am able to see yellow markings on the tergite 2 from this angle, they have a shape suggesting this may be X. stackelbergi.

Best regards,
Matej

Hi Matej,

thank you very much for your analysis. I will consider this to be cf. stackelbergi.

Greetings, Uli
