Hello! I caught this one in Hungary, yesterday. It was a little specimen. I think that this is a Platycheirus ambiguus, could you help me please? Or is this an other species?

The combination of not-entirely black third antennal segment, yellow fore and middle femura, yellow hind femora with black ring, and blue-grey spots on tergites give only ambiguus as possibility among the 22 species known in Denmark.
I assume the abdomen must have grey spots?

Thank you! Yes, I would say that there are some grey spots. Then, surely ambiguus?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
