Can somebody help with the ID of this Muscidae male? It is from Kekerdom, the Netherlands, collected the 23th of July. It has some dusted stripes on the thorax, a quite bristly appearance and the mid femora seem to be slightl curved.

Hi Nikita, you put me in the right track. Because it was a large and robust fly with a long haired arista, I just thought it was a Muscidae. Now I decided to check the genitalia, and indeed, it is Zaphne divisa (Anthomyiidae). I posted the picture of the genitalia here (there are a lot of pictures): https://waarnemin...260394460/

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
