Hi All Noticed this hoverfly on some thistles on the edge of a small meadow, woods close by. This one has got me stuck. It has dark hind legs, dark hair on the scutellum and a completely pale frons. I was looking at Epistrophe nitidicollis but that is out of area and the face isn't right. And then Parasyrphus nigritarsis. But the face is not right for this either.
