Mediterranean scrub. South central spain. may 2022. 600 m.

I think it's Estheria, but the only species with such an elongated prementum lives in Canary Islands (as far as I know), so I'm probably wrong...

Yes, our posts crossed. It is indeed the well known Estheria with long proboscis from the Canary Isles: simonyi.

Wow, but the photos are from the center of iberian peninsula. That's the origin of my doubt about the specific determination.

I am sorry, I thought it was from the Canary Isles..

From Spain, it is Rhamphina cf. pedemontana.

Oh! It's a new genus to me!
I had never seen it. There are two species in iberian penĂnsula, Do you know if exist some key character, besides the flexibility of proboscis, that separates two species?

Thank you a lot!!!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
