I observed this possible carcelia spec. on 18th Juni 2022 in Den Helder, Netherlands. I found it in a park. Can someone tell me which species is this.

Thanks a lot.

Greetings,
Mario Renden

Hi Mario, a male C. Iliaca, I think. Oaks/Thaumetopoea in the neighbourhood?

the vertex is too narrow for iliaca. I'd say a male C. bombylans (yellow tibia 2, yellow basicosta, no discals on tergites, yellow humerus), which is pretty exciting in NL !

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
