This compact fly was found on Poplar in Vienna, Donauinsel, in late May

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

That's a surprise, I thought it was very like Thrypticus!

Oh, from this point of view it is surely Thrypticus smaragdinus.

Wonderful, thanks!

Those species are so far reported in Austria:

Thrypticus atomus Frey, 1915
Thrypticus bellus Loew, 1869
Thrypticus divisus (Strobl, 1880)
Thrypticus laetus Verrall, 1912
Thrypticus nigricauda Wood, 1913
Thrypticus smaragdinus Gerstacker, 1864

With T. smaragdinus previously known only from one state (Burgenland), this is a nice addition for Vienna and for updating distribution data
