5/12 Cylindromyia gemma (Tachinidae) (male)
South East Bulgaria, Gorno Pole. 20th June 2014. Altitude 520m . Hilltopping.
Note the very long antennae. C. gemma is very similar to C. robusta but sternite 5 for this specimen closely matches that for C. gemma in the key linked below.
Probably not previously recorded for Bulgaria (there are literature records for Greece but I think not from elsewhere in Europe). There is a nice review and key of East Mediterranean species, including C. gemma, here-

"A review of the genus Cylindromyia Meigen (Diptera: Tachinidae) in Iran, with the description of two new species and the newly discovered male of C. persica Tschorsnig" Gilasian et al (researchgate.net)

very nice.

These days, gemma is quite common in the Aegeian pelagico. (unpublished).
Bulgaria is another thing, of course

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
