this fly was about 6-8mm
found in Germany, Northrhine-Westfalia, Waltrop, 26. 3. 2022

Is more ID possible? May be P. rudis or P. vagabunda?

greetings

Hi, difficult to see - but I think this male has a dark basicosta which excludes P. rudis. The black median stripe on the thorax as well as the dark line in the middle of the abdomen could lead to P. cf. vagabunda as there are not enough characters to be sure (humeral and poshumeral bristles, short flagellum, slender build, longer legs as other Pollenia).
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
