Dear all,
last summer on a hike on mount Stoos I encountered this beautiful hoverfly which rested on my camera bag. Do you know what species it is? Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards, Adrian

My guess: Arctophila bombiformis. I'm not an expert. Greetings from the Prealps.

Hey, thank you for the suggestion. While looking it up, I stumbled upon Volucella bombylans, which I believe could be the species.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
