Hi,
ID possible?
Photo on Finland Kokkola 19 July 2021.

Could this be the mine of Chromatomyia?
Thank you in advance for any help in identification,
Pentti

Hi Pentti, I think you are right with Chromatomyia and probably it's the polyphagous C. horticola (we can see the frass in isolated grains, but other C. do it the same way).

Chromatomyia syngenesiae is also known on this host (https://agromyzidae.myspecies.info/node/1382) and forms identical mines to horticola, adults must be reared.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
