Hi there,

Here are two photos of the same individual taken in an urbanized area around Paris (Houilles, 78800, France).

I am quite a novice at identifying Culicidae species. Based on what I read on the internet, the resting position with an angle is a characteristic of Anopheles sp but the short palps remind Culiseta sp., perhaps longiareolata...

Is there a more expert eye that could provide more details on this ID?

It is a Culex female, but I'm unsure which species.

Thanks Tony! It seems I am not good at identifying these mosquitoes...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
