Hello,

I photographed this fly in the Sorgenti del Fiume Vera Nature Reserve (AQ), Italy on April 30th 2021. I think it is a Scaptomyza, but is it possible to identify its species from these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

S. pallida can be ruled out. After that most of the darker ones are graminum but no way to be certain from these pictures.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
