 Eupeodes corollae?

I found this Eupeodes but I don't know if it belongs to the species E. corollae or E. luniger. What are the characters that differenciate these two species? Thank you location: Barcelos, Portugal date: 2007/11/25  |

I think you have a female of E. corollae. M.van Veen: "females: frons with dust spots and border between black and yellow straight"- E. corollae "females: frons with dust spots, the visible black part extends as a black Y into the yellow part" - E. luniger. another difference you can see on the scutellum: E. corollae has a yellow-haired one (some black hairs might be present) and E. luniger has a predominantly black-haired scutellum. http://www.dipter...d_id=10070 http://www.diptera.info/photogallery.php?photo_id=200 maybe these links help you ... Thank you very much Amalia, now I get it (for females). In males it's a little bit different. I assume that the differences between the two species lies on the yellow hairs in the scutellum. Is that right? |
