Germany, district Karlsruhe, Karlsbad-Spielberg, on an orchard meadow, on a flower of Ranunculus; found date 01.05.2021; approx 6 - 8 mm; Melanostoma mellinum? thanks Gerold Franke

Might be M. mellinum, but with uncertainty. The pictures do not show the necessary details that you can learn from the key of p. 129 in https://www.resea..._Syrphidae. The pictures in https://www.dipte...pid=196258 are much better, and even there we had a controversial discussion (BTW Fred Fly = Piet Nord). So Melanostoma spec.
